Cleanings and Checkups

Cleanings and checkups are an integral part of establishing and maintaining oral health. You should have cleanings and checkups at least every six months. Checkups are very thorough; they can reveal an array of potential problems like periodontal (gum) disease, dental caries, bone atrophy and oral cancer. When issues are detected early, patients can normally see improvement in their oral health with conservative treatment. In the case of oral cancer, early detection is vital to seeking life-saving healthcare.

Professional cleanings help keep the surfaces of teeth and the gum line free of harmful substances and debris. Even when we brush and floss properly, plaque - and eventually tartar - accumulate along the gum line and in between teeth. When plaque hardens into tartar, it can only be removed with professional scaling tools. Regular cleanings and checkups are the best defense against cavities and gum disease.

Preventive Treatments

We proudly offer preventive treatments to help patients thwart off potential disease - especially conditions that affect the health of teeth. Fluoride treatments and dental sealants are two cost-effective methods for strengthening the external structure of teeth to help prevent tooth decay. Fluoride helps keep tooth enamel strong by replenishing lost minerals while placing dental sealants involves applying a thin layer of a clear plastic compound over the biting surfaces of teeth. Once applied, sealants create a barrier between teeth and cavity causing bacteria.

When chips, cracks or decay cause damage to teeth, restorations are required to prevent the internal structures of teeth from developing infection. There are multiple types of restorations including fillings, crowns and bridges. Fillings address small areas of tooth decay that might develop on the biting surfaces of teeth or even in between teeth. Crowns, on the other hand, are custom restorations that cover the entire tooth above the gum line.

Dental Studio places restorations using different materials. We also utilize advanced technology called CEREC to place crowns in one day. CEREC is a technology that allows our dentist to create the specifications needed for crowns and fabricate them in one convenient office visit. Bridges are another type of restoration that addresses minimal tooth loss. A bridge is comprised of a group of cemented crowns that anchor to biological teeth to “bridge” the gaps in a smile.

Custom Mouthguards

Those who play contact sports or participate in physical activities with a high-risk for injury should invest in custom mouthguards. A mouthguard protects teeth and soft, oral tissue from facial trauma caused by blows to the face or hard-hitting falls. Custom mouthguards are made to fit the unique shape and size of a person’s mouth and teeth so that comfort is not sacrificed.

Why should I go to the dentist regularly?

There a few good reasons you should visit the dentist on a regular basis. When you come to visit Dental Studio routinely, you increase your odds of having potential problems and common conditions detected as soon as possible. Early detection means that preventive treatments can be used, oral structures can be saved before conditions progress to an unmanageable point, and less invasive (costly) treatments can be used.

A dental checkup is very thorough. During an examination, the entire oral cavity is checked for common conditions, potential problems, and abnormalities. A checkup entails a physical examination that includes the head, glands in the neck, and all visible soft tissue. Diagnostics are taken to observe the health of teeth, their roots, and the jawbones. Patients are screened for oral cancer, bone atrophy, and gum disease as well.

How often should I have a cleaning?
You should have a professional cleaning at least every four to six months. Cleanings are necessary for controlling the buildup of substances that can destroy the oral health system. Substances like plaque and tartar (calcified plaque) are especially dangerous when they accumulate because they contribute to periodontal (gum) disease. Even if we clean our mouths as thoroughly as possible, home care doesn’t compare to a professional cleaning.
What is a dental crown?
A dental crown is a custom restoration that is used to cover all a tooth’s structure above the gums. This restoration is used to conceal and protect issues like chips, cracks, and worn dentition. Crowns protect teeth from becoming so damaged that they need to be extracted. They can also improve the appearance of one’s smile if tooth-colored materials are used.
